explorers

I think this commercial is aimed at people who want to explore new things. The people who want to fit them self’s in the new generation. Any new product that comes out they would want it straight away, because they want to discover new things and new technology. The reason why I think that this video matches the sub heading, explorers is  because it shows a group of people who look very interested in Samsung galaxy s3 and because it’s a new product that has recently came out, it looks as they are waiting to buy it. They sound so excited about it.  They look as if they love new things and they are adventures people.
Mainstreamers
This commercial is aimed at people who want seek security, the reason is that they want to protect them self’s from anything. The reason why this is a good commercial for mainstreamers is because they are the people who want tight security and good protection on them self’s because they want to protect them self’s from any danger.  This would influence them to buy it because they want security.
Resigned
I think that this little clip is aimed at resigned people who are normally old people. In this little clip it shows loads of old people playing with the photo booth which normally teenaged group of people use to make their pictures look funny and amusing, but in this clip of people are using it, this show that they are enjoying life as much as they can because they know that their time is nearly up.  So it shows them enjoying life as much as they can, even if the thing they are using is not for their age.
Aspirer's
I think this commercial is aimed a group of people who would try something by because of the looks not the actual product. The group of people are called aspirers; they are the people who would try something because of its looks, not by the actual product. I think aspirer’s people would try this beer because of the successful commercial, because the commercial is good that’s why it would influence them to try it and they would.  They would try the beer because of the attractive commercial.
Reformers
I think this is for the reformers group because they love freedom and they are aware of the taste. They want to open they are independent. In this advert it shows a group o f people who want to enjoy life they are chilling with some of their mates and having wine. It shows how free they want to be, they also want to be away from the busy world and want a relaxing life.

Sports Car
In this commercial sports car are aimed at women, firstly she is called a driver but then she shows her driving skills. The reason why this is a successful commercial is because woman for the first time are represented as strong objects. This would encourage other females to be like that female in the commercial. If the male was driving the car, then the commercial would aim at males, but here in this advert the male is sitting down and showed to be so scared and worried because of the females driving.
Men could also be targeted at a commercial like this if they change the representation and the way they are in the commercial, because there are many ways how you could represent men, you could represent them as strong, weak, or emotional. There are many ways how you could aim a commercial like this at men, you could have a man in the car with his wife or girlfriend and he is driving at the speed of 90 mph, then that would attract a wide range men to do that as well, because they would want to be like that.

Bottled beer
In this commercial men are the target audience; it shows men as being desperate for beer. I can tell this by the way the guys were ripping the wallpaper to get to their head to the other side just to get the beers. This shows how desperate they are for it and they could do anything. It is very hard to fit a woman in this commercial because most women don’t die for beer, whereas men would do anything to get beer.

You could represent this in a different way so that it appeals to woman by changing the slogan and images, you could also have a group of girls drinking together. This would show that not only men can drink, women can also drink as well and it would also tell people that women are equal to men.
Toilet paper

This commercial is mainly targeted at woman because they are the ones normally shown as the house wife’s, which means they are the ones who are going to look after the house. So this commercial is aimed at them, because they are the ones who would look after the house. In the commercial they have shown the woman and the cute dog, which suggest that they are both looking after the house.
You could make that advert for men as well, if only they didn’t have that dog. If they had something different than a dog then it might attract men. They could also change the colour to make it attractive to men.
Deodeorant
This commercial is targeted at women because it shows women using it. Its edit would pull the audiences in. it would make them question themselves, but on the other hand if it was a lynx advert, it would apply more to a male audience. The smile on her face says it all; it shows how happy she is and how cool she feels. There are loads of commercials for men as well.
hi fi system
In this commercial men are targeted more than women because men would usually listen to loud music and they can handle loud music more than women.  Men would normally get attracted to these kinds of things.  If it was a women they would normally be attracted more to a a something which will be useful to them such as makeup or something.
You could attract more of a woman audience by changing the colour of the background and you could change the music. If it is a slow pace music then it would normally be aimed at women.
Cleaning product
This cleaning product would mostly be aimed at women because they are mostly known as house wives, and cleaning might be one of their job. So this commercial is targeted at women. It would make them buy it because the director of this commercial has used a powerful women in the commercial saying good things about that cleaner, and normally women would  trust women  more than men so if a women has said it, they are most probably going to buy it. in this poster commercial they show this women as being so serious about what she is doing. And they make her look so passionate about her job.
I don’t think men would actually be attracted by cleaning products, even if they have another man who is cleaning to house with some sort of cleaning product. The only men that would clean or buy that product are the group of men who love keeping things clean and tidy, but that’s if they are the people who love tidy stuff, because normally men are always represented as dirty and messy.
Trainers
This commercial is aimed at young boys because they are the group who are mostly interested in trainers and in what they wear. The director of the commercial has used a young boy trying to show off his skills with his new trainers, this would have an effect on the audience because they would be like why can’t I buy these and be like that. It would make him buy it. In this poster it shows or suggests the power of these trainers, the way it is edited is very professional because it makes the audience want to buy it.  The reason why this commercial is successful is because it shows the things that the trainers are used for and its bet features.
If you want to aim a trainers commercial at woman is by changing the colour or advertising pink trainers, you could also change the music which is playing on the background to attract woman.
game console
This commercial is targeted at all aged men’s because it shows a teenager playing it and then the man himself says can I play with it, which shows that all men would want some sort of entertainment in life. Even if your 50.  The director has made it funny and he has made it very professional, he has gave a desperate representation to boys, it shows him playing his game while he is in the toilet, this shows how desperate he is, and then the funny bit is when the guy is reaching up to see what it happening. All of that shows the desperateness. This poster shows everything which could be explored in the game console.  The humour of this commercial makes it look successful.
Game console in commercials are normally targeted at boys because they are the ones who are in to games. If however you want to target girls for game you could have a commercial where a girl is playing a girly game, rather than FIFA because girls will never be attracted by FIFA.
Air line

This commercial is aimed at men and women because they both can do it, it’s not that a boy can buy that ticket and a girl can’t. It is aimed at both genders and it explains how cool it is to be in it. The reason why this commercial is successful is because of the beginning of the commercial, when the show everyone lying down and later they have connected it with the bit in the plain, it all connects. YOU can't really target a specific men or woman for this job because, both can do it.

                    Theory homework

SkyFall

In SkyFall the hero is James Bond (Daniel Craig), the villain is Silva (Javier Bardem), the helper is Eve (Naomie Harris), and the princess is M (Judi Dench). The director of SkyFall has used todorov theory, equilibrium, disequilibrium, and new equilibrium.  The equilibrium in 007 is when Silva is trying to kill M for betraying him. The disequilibrium is that they caught him, but Silva already planned everything before them, so he wanted them to arrest him because the rest he already had planned. Finally the new equilibrium is that they get to him again and Silva and M die at the end. The point of this is that it gives away three different stories. So in SkyFall no one knew about Silva till the middle of the story that’s when he got introduced to the audience. If you think about it he is one of the main characters as well, because he is given the role as the villain in the film, and look when he is introduced to the audience, half way through the film.  Todorov also splits the narrative in three different sections, which makes it easier for the audience to understand the narrative.

The director has also used Barthes theory, which means a tangled ball of threads, which the audience would open while watching a film. This means the audience would suggest a meaning for something which they have seen. In SkyFall this theory is used at most times, when the audience see enigma codes. There are loads of enigma codes used in 007, there very popular in creating mystery when the narrative is given to us.

007 the director has also included multi-strand narratives, this means one there is more than one narrative included in the film.  In 007 Bond is a CSI agent and he is protecting M, he doesn’t even know about Silva till he completes half of his mission.

The director has also used loads of binary opposites, Bond is white and his side kick Eve is black, their base is in London and Silva is in some next island place, all the agents are white and Silva is non-British. This creates loads of questions about why this has been done. The director has also used prop theory loads of times in 007. He has used loads of complication at times, lots of struggle, where Bond cannot get to the villain. He has also used a return where the hero is set a job to do and when he does it he gets awarded.

Www: You have pitched out some relevant details in places but...

EBI: You haven’t answered either question. In q1 you say a lot about tension and seriousness, but not much on realism. In q2, you needed to write about the representation of Americans/foreign people. You also needed to write about stereotypes.

LR: write a new paragraph for q2 that uses the word stereotype and talks about non Americans.

In United 93 non-Americans are shown as terrorists. This is because they want to make a stereotype in the audiences mind because they want them to think that non-Americans are also causing trouble to America. The evidence of them being terrorists is that they all look serious and nervous when they are in the plain, which suggests that they are up to something and are going to cause trouble.

                                                                        Media awards
W.W.W the things that paper boy did well was that they used good use of lighting; the thing that went very well was the editing throughout the whole clip. That is the thing that attracts or pulls the audience in. The main thing which any producer of anything has to take in mind is the editing and the people who made the paper boy have really took that in mind and thought about it. That’s what has made their production the best.
The paper boy has used and has done everything to be the best clip out of all the other ones. At the beginning of the film when the boy is getting bullied, the producer has used a black and white colour for the background. This is done to show the negativity about the boy getting bullied. This is a very good affect on the audience because someone is getting hurt and to make it even more negative, the producer has used black and white colour. The black and white colour also connotes the past, so basically what’s already happened. The colour changed throughout the clip, this is done to show how things change and also to connote the scene with the film title. Colour could be very useful in telling the narrative to or giving the story line to the audience, it also fits in with the narrative. The other thing that the producer of this clip has used very well editing which makes everything looks very realistic, and if everything looks realistic, who want watch it. Editing could also pull in the audience in the film, because it gives all those effects which the audience expect to see from the film. The best editing that is used is when the boy at the beginning is getting bullied, and then at the end everything rewinds back. That’s the best editing in this clip which pulls the audience.
Get dark
E.B.I what i think paper boy should have done is that they should of explained the storyline a bit well, because they show a rewind, which confuses the audience on what’s going on. So that’s why I think they should have explained the narrative or the storyline a bit more. So it doesn’t get confusing. Another they could have done is they should of made it a bit more scary, because it was a horror genre. If it was a little scarier then it would have been perfect for a horror movie.
W.W.W for a music video that was too good. Everything looked so real as if it is actually a super hit production. The shots were fantastic; they used a wide verity of shots which match with the scene and the atmosphere. The sound was excellent, everything was clear for the audience to understand.
E.B.I what i think what would of made it a bit better is if only there was a bit of violence in the video because it’s a rape production that would of made it look a bit more realistic.
                    Fish Tank Review
The film Fish Tank was released on the September11th2009. It was directed by Andrea Arnold. Over the past years Andrea Arnold has directed 6 films so far. For example in 2005 she directed a film called wasp, which she got an academic award for best live short action film. Then in 2006 she was the director of another film called Red Road which got a Jury Prize at Cannes. Then she was the director of another film called Fish Tank which was a low budget British film, which got three awards, one for being an outstanding British film, one for being a best independent British film director, and finally one Jury Prize at Cannes. The last film which was directed by her is Wuthering Heights.
The main people who were casting in the film Fish Tank are:  Katie Jarvis, Michael Fassbender and Kierston Wareing. The main character in the film, Mia (Katie Jarvis) is not an actress or anything, she was found at a train station fighting with her boyfriend. That is where Andrea Arnold saw her and said she is the right one to do this play. Michael Fassbender is a famous actor; he started this career in 2007 when his first film was released called 300 and Angel. In Fish Tank at the beginning he has a role of a boyfriend and then later on he has to play a role for a father and husband. Kierston Wareing has also played roles in many films and in Fish Tank she is the mother of two daughters living with her boyfriend.   Fish Tank was a low budget British film, which means it was shot in a local area because of the budget. What I mean by low budget is that the producer of the film did not invest loads and loads of money in the film. If a film has a low budget, it cannot be as professional as a high budget film, because high budget films have loads of money which they could invest in the film and make everything perfect to make it a super hit film.
The film is rated 15, this is due to the amount of swearing in the film and some inappropriate scenes. From my personal point of view I don’t think this film should be rated 15, it should be rated 18 because there is too much swearing in the film. The BBFC British board of film classification says if a film is rated 15, there can be swearing but to a limit, which means you could use swear words but you cannot repeat it over and over again, which in Fish tank this has been done. The same swear word is used over and over again, which would be inappropriate for 15 years old.
The genre of the film is drama. The main message what Andrea Arnold is trying to get to us is that how it would feel living in a condition like that. The story is about a girl called Mia (Katie Jarvis) who is 15 years old and she is hated by the people she is living with her mum and sister. The only person who doesn’t hate her is her mum’s boyfriend, who currently lives with them in the same house. The Mia does not go school, one day she is in the cyber-cafe and she looks at a poster which is about dancing and she thinks she should go to it. So she shows a video to them and she gets elected for an audition.  Before she goes to the audition she has to practise a lot, which she does every day because she don’t go to school. Her mum and sister really do not care if she is elected for the dancing auditions, but the only person who gives her attention is her mums Boyfriend. While she is practicing he supports her all sorts, but then they fall for each other and they have sex. The boyfriend the next morning runs away back to his house where his daughter and wife live. Then Mia makes it to his house one day and finds out all the truth from the scoters and girly toys in the house, she feels very used and angry, so she tries to take the guys daughter away. Michael finds her when she goes back to drop the daughter away and he catches her till she stops. Bang! He gives her a slap and walks away. Then the next morning Mia decides that she is going to move to Wales with her boyfriend.. While she is packing and getting all her stuff together her mum is dancing in the living room and that’s when she goes an joins her, followed by her sister. That’s the main plot of the film.
                                                                      Fish tank
1)      All the Institutions involved in the production of Fish Tank. List them with a summary of what their contribution to the film was.
The institution companies which were involved in fish tank are BBC films, UK Film Council, and Kasander Film Company.

2)       Two other Independent British Film production companies – their “brand”, as well as current and previous productions.
Ealing Studios - Barnaby Thompson
Ealing Studios is the UK’s only vertically integrated film studio, making its particularly British brand of films like St Trinian’s as well as owning legendary facilities Ealing Studios. Its Ealing Metro arm also focuses on international sales and distribution. Ealing is now in development on another of its hugely successful St Trinian’s films. Other upcoming Ealing productions include Nina Simone biopic Nina, written and directed by Cynthia Mort and the thriller Vanished directed by Pete Travis. Credits: The Importance of Being Earnest, St Trinians, Dorian Gray, Burke & Hare

Cloud Eight - Christian Colson
Christian Colson hit the big time with Slumdog Millionaire. A frequent producing partner for Danny Boyle, Colson won an Oscar for his work on the film and was also nominated this year for 127 Hours. Colson most recently produced Boyle’s upcoming art heist thriller Trance, starring James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson. Credits: The Descent, Eden Lake, Slumdog Millionaire, The Scouting Book for Boys, Centurion, 127 Hours

3)      Out of the three Production Companies you have researched, which do you see as most successful and why?
I think BBC film production is the most successful one out of all of them, it has produced varies of films over the years which have been very successful for example: in 2008 the most successful film by BBC is Churchill of war, in 2009 nativity, in 2010 made in Dagenham, in 2011 awakening, in 2012 Henry vi ii. As we can see that the BBC film productions are very successful in the films they have got involved in.

4)      How much Fish Tank cost to produce (it's budget) The budget for fish tank was £3million

5)       Film budgets – find 5 films made for £5 million pounds or less?
Rocky is a 1976 film and the budget was less than just $1million
The inbetweeners was a 2011 film and the budget was $5.3million
The guard was a 2011 film with a budget of $6 million
The science of sleep was a 2006 film and had a budget of $6 million
Eagle Vs shark was a 2007 film with a budget of $1.35 million

6)      How was Fish Tank funded? Fish Tank was funded by BBC films and the UK film council.

7)      Research one other way that British films are funded. Are there any similarities or differences? British film institution is now the lead body for film in the UK which includes a role as a lottery distributor, with responsibility for funding film development and production; training; distribution and exhibition; supporting film UK-wide; film certification, the Cultural Test and co-production; strategic development; industry research and statistics; and the MEDIA Desk UK. The role of the British Film Commission in encouraging inward investment work transfers to Film London.

8)      What is the target audience for Fish Tank? I think the target audience for Fish Tank is teenagers to adults. So from 16-32 years old, because it’s all based on teenage and adult life, I don’t think any aged people under 16 won’t like it and it won’t be a decent film to watch for them due to the amount of swearing in the film.
9)      Research the mainstream 16–25 youth cinema market and decide which 3 genres are most targeted at them and justify your decisions with your research. The three genres which 16-25 year old would prefer to watch are comedy, romance or horror films. The reason being is as they are young and the comedy which are featured today are more suited for their audience, so they would prefer to watch the comedy films. The teenagers to young adults would tend to watch romantic films with their boyfriend/girlfriend and the romantic films which are in today are very mainstream e.g twilight and the latest ones that follow on from that. Lastly, horror most of them would prefer this as when they have a movie night in with their friends they want to watch something frightening and enjoy themselves, and in most of the horror films teenagers star in them. So it draws them into watching it more.

10)   Who is the main distributor for fish tank? The main distributors were, Articifical Eye, MK2 Diffusion, Nuptopia Entertainment, Syrena Films, Alta Films, Canana Films, Film1, IFC Films, Mongrel Media and SP films.

11)    What is the role of a film distributor? Are there any differences between distribution in the US and UK? Film distributor is a company that releases films theatrically or for home viewing. It plays a huge role in the film's success. As they control the marketing and circulation of movies in theatres. There are some differences, the low budget films wouldn't have very big distributors were as US films would have international distributors as it would be a higher budget and could afford it.

12)   How was Fish Tank promoted (when it was released in 2009)? Fish Tank was promoted at 62nd Cannes film festival in France, on May 14, 2009.

13)    Compare this with a big budget blockbuster. What are the main similarities and differences?  High budget films would be promoted much more than low budget films which is the difference between them both. The reason why it would be prompted much more than the low budget film is because it is a high budget film and people would have more expectations from the film. That’s why it would be promoted more and the more something is promoted the more money it will make, because it would be advertised in many ways which would attract loads of people to watch it. the similarity between both low and high budget film is that they would both advertise in the same way, so posters, trailers, and many more.

14)   How does the trailer for Fish Tank hook audiences into the narrative and pose questions that the film will answer? Identify 3 ways/techniques. The three techniques that are used to hook the audience in Fish Tanks trailer are the use of lighting, the use of different shots, and finally the main editing. Low and high key lighting is used in the trailers of Fish Tank to hook the audiences and to create the atmosphere in the audiences mind. The different shots make us put our self in her position and see how it feels living like that. This means the shots are used to catch the audience. And finally the editing does everything, the editing would have a big impact on hooking the audience to the film, so if the editing is not good as it should be then it would be very hard to hook the audience. The editing also makes the audience start questioning them self’s.

15)   Analyse the trailers for 2 different films (from different genres). Are there any differences in the way they hook the audience into the narrative and pose questions that the film will answer? Identify at least 2 similarities and 2 differences. The trailer for Sky fall is very effective in building questions in the audiences mind, because it’s an action film all the sound in the trailer is very use full it pulls the audiences in the film. The music at the background hooks the audiences in and drags them into the film. All the gun shots noises gives away the narrative to the audience. The shots are edited in a very useful way, so it would show a serious scene and when the shot gets to the main bit the shot would change, that would make people who have watched the trailer watch it because they want to find out what happens next.

Step up 4 is a Musical dance romance film and they show the various of scenes which creates enigma codes. As the questions which are being raised we are thinking about it too. The target audience is young audiences and they exceed in capturing their attention as the song gets stuck in your head and the dance moves and voice-over informs us about the narrative to which is very effective. And it therefore get's the audience thinking different things and of course if the outcome will be a positive one. The similarities between both of them are is that they both have a music playing at the back and then someone would speak over the music. The difference is that they both have different types of shots used in the trailers.

16)   How does the trailer for Fish Tank balance plot and spectacle? The trailer is shown negatively and captures the audiences mind by the effective use of lighting. Also as her being the female fatale it's different, because it's not usually like that. And the things she says, her actions are memorable. As this is what typical teenagers too, it also builds the story-line more as we see different aspects and it gets us thinking.
17)   How do the trailers for your other films balance plot and spectacle? Identify at least 2 similarities and 2 differences.
It balances the plot and spectacle by the point of the trailer is to draw the audience and to persuade them into watching the film, for them to do that they have to let something stick into the audiences mind. This is done in both of the trailers by the lighting it connotes and depicts the story line effectively and the different actions and shots with it. It lines up all nicely, and thus leaves it in the audiences mind.
18)   Think about the certificate of Fish Tank (15 certificate). Research film certification and outline what is deemed acceptable for this certificate. What is the difference between a 15 certificate and an 18 certificate? If a film is classified as a 15 film, there could be swearing init, they might show drugs but cannot force to take drugs because that’s going against the age restriction and then the film won’t be shown. Highly drugs also cannot be shown such as aerosols or solvents.  If it is a horror film Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised. They can’t show these things in a 15 year old film: suicide, hanging, and self-harming. If a swear word is said once or twice that’s ok, but if it is repeated them that won’t be acceptable. Sexual violence cannot be shown in a 15 year old; some violence is allowed but too much is not acceptable. For an 18 year old film everything is acceptable because they are mature enough t understand what is going on. That is why everything is acceptable for a 18 year old film.
